SEO Tip -- Did you know?
Punctuations are Now Returning Results :)
Google is starting to return search results for punctuation marks. In the past a typed single punctuation mark such as a + was ignored but by strange chance, maybe related to the roll out of Google+, punctuations will be included in search results.
We have noticed that a single punctuation is included in the search for that character. However if the mark is used multiple time, e.g.: “///” orĀ “$$$” the characters are not. It appears that Google is searching for the word associated with the punctuation. For example “-“ is really a search for “dash”.
So, you ask, what does that mean to my website? If your company includes a punctuation mark as part of the company name there is a much better chance of better ranking.

Image Search
Google and to a lesser extent Bing, and since Bing provides the search results, Yahoo use images to rank the content of a website. None of the search engines are able to interpret the content of an image so they use the image title and other content information to determine the ranking.
First in order to understand how Google ranks image you must realize that Google does not care who owns the image or if it is copyrighted or who published it first. Rather they care where the image is on a popular website.
That said it helps to drive traffic to your website by having your image show in Google’s image search results.
Here are the steps to help have an image show in the image search results:
- Choose a descriptive SEO friendly keyword file name.
- Use the image alt attribute with appropriate keywords.
- Embed the image above the fold on the webpage adjacent to content that is highly relevant and focused on the subject matter of the page.
